When Should You Schedule High School Senior Portraits?

Senior year only happens once, and your senior portraits should reflect who you are during this exciting season of life. One of the most common questions I get from families is, “When should we schedule senior pictures?” The short answer is: earlier than you think!

The Best Time to Book Your Senior Photographer

If you’re looking for high senior portraits in the Snohmish County area, especially at a local beach such as Mukilteo, I recommend reaching out to photographers at the end of your junior year. Many photographers begin booking senior sessions months in advance, and the most popular dates fill quickly.

Booking early gives you the best selection of dates and allows plenty of time to plan a session that feels personal and unique, and before the rainy days of Seattle set in.

The Best Months for Senior Portraits

Snohomish, WA

In my experience, the ideal time for senior portraits in Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Mountlake Terrace, and the greater North Seattle area is late July through August.

August is my favorite month for senior sessions because:

  • The weather is usually warm and reliable.

  • The Pacific Northwest is full of beautiful greenery and golden evening light.

  • Students haven’t yet started the busy routine of classes, sports, clubs, and part-time jobs.

  • You’ll have plenty of time to submit your yearbook photo before school deadlines.

September can still be beautiful, but I’ve found it becomes much more challenging for seniors to fit a photo session into their schedules once school begins. Between athletics, extracurricular activities, homework, and work commitments, calendars fill up quickly.

What Happens After You Book?

Once you’ve secured your session date, we’ll begin planning all the fun details together.

We’ll discuss:

  • Outfit selections that fit your personality and style.

  • Locations that match your interests and the look you’re envisioning.

  • Tips for preparing so you feel confident and relaxed on session day.

My goal is to make your senior portrait experience enjoyable from start to finish while creating images that truly represent who you are.

Don’t Miss Your Yearbook Deadline

Every high school has its own requirements, but most schools request yearbook portraits between October and early January.

Scheduling your session during the summer means you’ll have plenty of time to:

  • View your gallery.

  • Select your favorite yearbook image.

  • Order prints and graduation announcements.

  • Meet your school’s submission deadline without feeling rushed.
